The National Open Water Swimming Centre®

Opening from Spring 2023, Sea Lanes Brighton will transform the former Peter Pan site on Madeira Drive, Brighton, by delving deep into its history and culture and reviving competitive and recreational sea-swimming on Brighton Seafront.

The vision is to create the UK’s first national open water swimming centre of excellence. As the wider master plan for the area is finalised, Sea Lanes will be taking the first step towards this vision with a development consisting of:

  • Heated 50m outdoor swimming pool and associated facilities
  • Endless pool training facility
  • Commercial buildings providing flexible space for local, independent businesses
  • Improved access to the sea

At the heart of the scheme is the swimming pool, which will be accessible to all. The pool will provide much needed swimming facilities in Brighton and will act as a gateway for those looking to gain the confidence to swim in the sea, as well as a training hub for open water swimming events, triathlon, sea safety and lifeguard courses.

The swimming pool will be supported small business units suitable for retail, health and fitness, office space as well as a food court with street food kiosks and a seating area. To express an interest in the Sea Lanes business units please contact Ed Deslandes at Flude Property Consultants www.flude.com

The design of the development, having initially been bright and colourful, has now been softened to reflect the existing buildings along the seafront. The height of the building has been reduced by 1.27m and the introduction of green roofs increase the ecology in the area and will reduce surface water run-off. Glass balustrades have also been included in the revised plans to allow for uninterrupted views from Madeira Drive.
