About The Big Swim
The Big Swim 2026 takes place in two stunning locations: Brighton and Dorset and is calling for 1,000-plus swimmers to take part in this very unique event. The swim is run in partnership with Land and Wave, Dorset and Sea Lanes, Brighton. Join us in supporting the South Coast’s largest wild swimming gathering, celebrating International Women’s Day alongside a vibrant and supportive community.
This is our third year supporting The Big Swim, Brighton and it’s exactly the kind of event we love. It brings people together through open water swimming, with a welcoming community and a shared focus on inclusivity and sustainability. Plus, it’s a lot of fun too!
At Sea Lanes, we’re delighted to be hosting The Big Swim Brighton event as well as a ticketed panel talk where women authors share their inspiring stories of open water, wellbeing and connection to the sea. Open to anyone who’d like to join, whether you’re swimming or not, you can book talk tickets here. Not only is this likely to be a record-breaking event in its own right, but it demonstrates just what can be achieved when swimmers, sponsors, partners and volunteers come together and support each other.

A Celebration of Women

International Women’s Day is a moment to pause, reflect, and champion women from all backgrounds and locations. The Big Swim embodies that spirit by inviting people – women, families, friends, and allies – to come together in a vibrant display of solidarity.
This year’s theme, #GiveToGain, reminds us that the fight for gender equity requires the collective efforts and contributions of everyone. By swimming, dipping, or cheering from the sidelines, we shine a light on women in our community, sparking conversations and inspiring action.
Taking Action for Women
The organisers of The Big Swim are asking the 1,000+ swimmers to take one action to support and elevate women in their communities. Small actions can have a ripple effect, creating long-term, meaningful change that extends far beyond the day itself. These actions will be collected when swimmers sign up for the event.
Actions can be as simple as supporting a women-owned business, giving your time to an organisation that supports women and girls, using your voice to amplify women in your community, or getting creative with something of your own. Why not share what you’re doing on Instagram using #TheBigSwim and #IWD2026 to inspire others to join in?
Community sits at the heart of Sea Lanes and most of our swimming members are women. Creating a space that feels safe, supportive and enjoyable matters to us, whether you’re a first-time dipper or a seasoned open water swimmer.
We’re also home to a number of brilliant female-led businesses across the fitness, health and wellbeing spaces, all contributing to the unique energy and culture of the Sea Lanes experience. Check them out here.
Making Waves for a Cause
One of the reasons we are so passionate about The Big Swim is its commitment to giving back. This event proudly supports Surfers Against Sewage, a charity dedicated to protecting our oceans from pollution and fighting for a sustainable future.
Over the last few years, we have not been able to swim because sewage releases in (add content here)
Sea Lanes lives and breathes open water swimming and building connections to the sea. But that connection is fragile if we don’t protect and preserve our waters. Organisations like Surfers Against Sewage and Leave No Trace Brighton take action to campaign for cleaner seas and protect marine environments, helping people care for the water they spend time in. It’s exactly the kind of work that sits naturally alongside what Sea Lanes believes in.
A Community Coming Together
The Big Swim is about more than just the swim itself—it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and connection. From the sparkly, colourful outfits we’re encouraged to wear to the group photo that will capture this unforgettable moment, it’s a chance to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
The event is organised by PinkNicky, Land and Wave host the Dorset swim and Sea Lanes host the Brighton Swim. Visit The Big Swimhere.
